Tab Genie — Privacy Policy
Effective date: July 18, 2026 · Contact: adam@mindsdb.com
Tab Genie is a browser extension that lets you organize your tabs and windows using plain-English commands ("close all duplicate tabs", "group my travel sites"). It is a bring-your-own-key tool: it has no servers of its own, and this policy describes everything it does with data.
The extension's single purpose
Viewing and organizing your browser tabs and windows (closing, grouping, moving, muting, pinning, reordering). All data handling described below exists solely to serve that purpose.
Data the extension handles
- Tab and window information — the titles and URLs of your open tabs, plus tab state (window and group membership, pinned/audio state, and time since last use). This is sent to one third-party AI provider — the one you select in Settings (Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, or xAI) — and only at two moments: when you run a command, and (if you enable the optional "AI-generated suggestions" toggle) when the popup opens with a changed set of tabs. It is used solely to decide which tab actions to take, and it is never sent anywhere else.
- API keys — the keys you enter are stored on your device using Chrome's extension storage (
chrome.storage.local). Each key is transmitted only to its own provider's API for authentication. Keys never pass through any other server.
- Settings and caches — your preferences (provider, model, toggles) and short-lived suggestion caches are stored locally on your device only.
What the extension does not do
- No analytics, telemetry, or tracking of any kind.
- No servers operated by the developer; no data passes through us, ever.
- No selling, renting, or sharing of user data with any party other than the AI provider you choose.
- No collection of data unrelated to tab management (no page contents, no form data, no browsing history beyond the open-tab titles/URLs described above).
- No remote code — all code ships inside the extension package.
Third-party AI providers
When tab information is sent to the provider you selected, their handling of that data is governed by their own terms and privacy policies: Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, xAI. You choose the provider; you can switch or remove it at any time in Settings.
Retention and deletion
The extension retains data only on your device. Removing a key in Settings deletes it immediately; uninstalling the extension removes all locally stored data. For data held by your chosen AI provider, refer to that provider's policy and account tools.
Changes to this policy
If the extension's data practices ever change, the change will be disclosed prominently in the extension before it takes effect, and this page will be updated with a new effective date.
